About MusicAPI
MusicAPI is a music transfer API that moves playlists, albums, artists and likes between 12 streaming services for streaming platforms and music apps.
Hernas OÜ builds MusicAPI in Tallinn, Estonia. Development started in 2021, and the public launch followed in March 2023. MusicAPI is the transfer technology behind FreeYourMusic, the consumer transfer app that the same team started in 2015.
What MusicAPI Does
MusicAPI Core
A REST API with webhooks that runs transfers inside the partner's own app and UI.
A team integrates it in about 2 to 4 engineering weeks.
MusicAPI Switch
A ready-made white-label transfer flow that the partner embeds and themes.
A partner goes live in about a day, with no transfer code to host.
Hosted OAuth
MusicAPI runs the sign-in flow for all 12 services and returns one integrationUserUUID per listener.
One ID reaches the listener's libraries, playlists and profile on every service.
Track matching
The matching engine matches songs by ISRC first and uses fuzzy matching as the fallback.
Partners get 10 years of FreeYourMusic matching data without building a resolver.
Webhooks and per-item results
MusicAPI sends a webhook on every transfer state change and a result for every item.
Partners follow progress and unmatched songs without polling.
One library API
One schema covers playlists, albums, artists and liked tracks on 12 services.
Partners write one data model instead of 12.
What Makes MusicAPI Different
Runs inside the partner's product
vs Soundiiz, TuneMyMusicSoundiiz and TuneMyMusic are transfer tools that listeners use on their own websites. MusicAPI Core runs the transfer inside the partner's app, and MusicAPI Switch shows it in the partner's brand.
One integration for 12 services
vs Spotify Web API, Apple MusicKitThe Spotify Web API and Apple MusicKit each cover one service with its own sign-in and data model. MusicAPI puts 12 services behind one OAuth flow and one schema.
Reads and writes user libraries
vs Songlink / Odesli APIThe Songlink / Odesli API resolves a link to the same song on other services. MusicAPI reads a listener's library on one service and writes it to another, with 132 transfer directions.
Built on the FreeYourMusic engine
since 2015MusicAPI uses the transfer and matching engine behind FreeYourMusic, which has moved playlists since 2015. FreeYourMusic itself runs its server-side transfers on MusicAPI.
One published meter
per requestMusicAPI bills only the requests it makes to streaming services: €0.60, €0.45 or €0.30 per 1,000 by monthly volume. There are no per-seat fees, no per-user fees and no overage penalties.
Who Uses MusicAPI
- Streaming services
They import a new listener's library from the service the listener leaves, as part of onboarding.
- Music apps and platforms
They read playlists, albums, artists and likes from the listener's streaming accounts.
- Independent developers
They start with free sandbox keys or through the RapidAPI marketplace.
- FreeYourMusic
The consumer transfer app by the same team runs its server-side transfers on MusicAPI.
Named customers are the ones already public on musicapi.com.
The Team Behind MusicAPI
Bartosz Hernas
Bartosz Hernas is a full-stack developer from Poland. In 2015 he and his twin brother Michał wanted to leave Spotify for Apple Music but could not move their 3,000 songs, so they co-founded FreeYourMusic. The brothers later founded MusicAPI to sell the same transfer engine to businesses.
Bartosz Hernas on LinkedInMichał Hernas
Michał Hernas, also a full-stack developer from Poland, is the CPO and the other half of the founding twins. When Apple Music launched in 2015, the brothers found no tool that could carry their 3,000 Spotify songs across, so they built FreeYourMusic together. As CPO, Michał owns the product side of FreeYourMusic and MusicAPI.
Michał Hernas on LinkedInHow MusicAPI started
Hernas OÜ started to build MusicAPI in August 2021, after the FreeYourMusic team saw that developers had to integrate each streaming service separately. The public beta launched on RapidAPI in March 2023.
Where the team works
The company is headquartered in Tallinn, Estonia, and the same team builds FreeYourMusic and MusicAPI. MusicAPI partners are streaming services and music apps, and the API serves them from one hosted platform.
How MusicAPI Works
- 01 · Sign up
Get sandbox keys
A developer signs up at app.musicapi.com and gets free sandbox keys. Sandbox requests are not metered.
- 02 · Connect
Redirect the listener
The partner sends the listener to the hosted OAuth flow. The callback returns one integrationUserUUID.
- 03 · Transfer
Call the REST API
The partner calls one REST API with Basic client credentials. A 2,000-song library takes about 60 source requests.
- 04 · Follow
Receive webhooks
MusicAPI signs each webhook with HMAC-SHA256 and reports every item. Switch adds about 120 destination requests.

Both use the matching engine behind FreeYourMusic, which has moved playlists since 2015.
Who founded MusicAPI?
Twin brothers Bartosz Hernas (CEO) and Michał Hernas (CPO) founded MusicAPI. They co-founded FreeYourMusic in 2015 and started to build MusicAPI in 2021 on the FreeYourMusic transfer engine. The company, Hernas OÜ, is based in Tallinn, Estonia.
What products does MusicAPI offer?
